Membership
Becoming a member of First Baptist North Adams is an easy process. After finger printing, a DNA swab, a credit check and a background check..... Just Kidding!!
Joining our church family is a big and important step, one that we take seriously. Our prayer is that all who join our family will choose to remain with us for years to come. Joining a church family is a primary way to identify oneself as a follower of Christ, and a significant way to partner in Kingdom purposes.
The process begins with a Get-to-Know FBC lunch with the pastor and the leaders of our discipleship program. This is simply an informal way of getting to know one another better.
We then welcome new members into the family through three avenues, depending on the background of those desiring to join.
1. Our first requirement for membership is that an active, growing relationship with Christ is being experienced.
2. One of the 3 Avenues of Membership is chosen:
a. Baptism - For those who are new to the faith, having accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we encourage you to join an eight-session discipleship class that shares the basics of the faith. This class is highly interactive and relational in it's approach as the basics - salvation, prayer, Bible study, love, giving, forgiveness, putting Christ first, and guidance - are shared. Those completing the discipleship class and desiring Baptism will then share in a two session Baptism class in preparation for Baptism.
b. Transfer of Membership - For those who are coming to First Baptist Church from another church family, we seek a transfer of membership from the previous congregation.
c. Profession of Faith - For those who have a maturing relationship with Jesus Christ but have not previously been a part of a church family, a profession of faith may be possible. A session with the pastor to discuss spiritual maturity and growth will take place.
3. All seeking membership will sit in on a session with the pastor to "Connect With the Family". This session will help new members learn the nuts and bolts of how our church family functions and ministers on all levels. We want our new members to know who and what they are becoming a part of.
4. Once the required elements are covered, new members will be formally welcomed into the church.
If you have any questions on how to start this process with us, with the process itself, or about how to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we encourage you to call or email the church office or Pastor. We'd love to connect with you.
